They still aren't having it, and I still don't know why. Although the very briefly waded in along the shore this time. Baby steps/ It was a lovely day at the farm...
I decided to walk the ducks down to our pond because they still had not discovered it on their own. I was excited, thinking that this was going to be the best day of their young duck lives. I was so wrong... Herding ducks is generally pretty easy, but they fought me a little today because they did not know where they were going. We got there eventually. And it was ok because I was sure that once they saw the water it would be all splashes and excitement. Nope. I got them pretty close to the water. One of them actually stepped in it on accident. But they were not having it. As soon as they could the ducks took off, running as fast as their waddling little legs could take them, straight through the woods. (They did not even use the trail that we had used to get there.) And they did not stop until they reached the chicken coop. Oh well, I guess for now their pools will be enough. Yesterday and today we got about 3 inches of rain. And that is after it rained pretty much all last week. Needless to say, we're a bit flooded and need a break from the rain. Matt made 2 owl houses for the friendly neighborhood owls that we hear almost every evening. I decorated one of them with our Crowell Farm logo (I burned it into the wood). Today he hung them both. It was a bit precarious as they needed to be about 20 feet up a tree, but Matt managed it. One is hanging near the pond, and the other is near one of the creeks. We have seen owls in both of these areas in the past. Well this is just getting ridiculous...
The pond is about as full as I've ever seen it (although there were signs that it had been even more full last week). After having an extremely wet 2019, it just will not stop. The ducks are of course loving this weather, but it is causing problems for everyone else. I feel like the half farm is nothing but a mud pit right now. This is mostly because of the all of the rain. But also because the ducks love to dig big muddy holes all over the place and play in the muddy puddles. I'm glad they are having fun...but geez, what a mess. |
